Bill Metzgar and Owen Schilling
Owners/Instructors

(Owen Schilling, Marcus Brinkman, Luo Dexiu and Bill Metzgar)

In 1995 Bill and Owen began their study of Chinese martial arts studying Shao-lin gong fu, animal styles, weapons and the internal martial arts. Realizing their interests lay wholly with the internal martial arts they focused on learning Ba Gua Zhang, Xing Yi Quan and Tai Ji Quan. It was at this time they began their study of Gao Style Ba Gua Zhang, Xing Yi Quan and Tai Ji Quan with Marcus Brinkman, the senior student of lineage holder Luo De Xiu of Taipei, Taiwan.

Marcus’s deep commitment to his martial and medical practice over twenty-five plus years has given him a unique perspective and understanding of these arts. Knowing that they had found someone with exceptional skill Bill and Owen dedicated themselves to his teaching. In his constant research of the internal martial arts, each year Marcus sponsored his teacher Luo De Xiu in Colorado, allowing his students to learn and study from teacher Luo.

Through years of private lessons with Marcus, attending his public classes and intense personal dedication Bill and Owen were eventually appointed class leaders and taught classes for him when necessary.

When Marcus left the Colorado area Bill and Owen began teaching the Ba Gua Zhang, Xing Yi Quan and related arts using the Yi Zong method transmitted by Luo De Xiu and Marcus Brinkman. Although they currently receive no compensation, they teach because of their dedication to the art. Together with Marcus’s other students they continue to support and sponsor Luo De Xiu’s annual visits to Colorado.
